Dr Waqas Ahmed Mahar works as a Professor in the Department of Architecture, School of Art, Design and Architecture (SADA) at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan. He is an architect and urban planner specializing in thermal comfort, indoor environmental quality, planning, housing, and building defects. His research focuses on architecture, planning, and building engineering in general, as well as thermal comfort and building performance in particular. I have worked on specific topics, including thermal comfort, housing stock characterization, bioclimatic design principles, energy-efficiency policies and practices, indoor environmental quality, and building performance simulation.
He worked as a registered architect in Pakistan, a housing manager in Malaysia, and an academic and researcher in Pakistan, Malaysia, and Belgium. He is an active member of the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP), the Institute of Architects, Pakistan (IAP), the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Pakistan, the International Council on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICICH), and the Pakistan Institute of Interior Designers (PIID). He also remained the founding Vice-Chairman of the Institute of Architects, Pakistan (IAP) Quetta Chapter.
